* * * MATE-12: MAINTENANCE * * *
PROBLEM: The computer is not booting from the C Drive.
o Symptom(s):
1) When booting up, the computer gets a "Hard Disk
Failure" or "Disk C Failure Initialize" error.
o Diagnosis:
1) Try booting up from A Drive.
2) Install the hard disk into another machine.
Try to re-boot from C Drive.
3) Swap cables.
o Solution:
1) Bad hard disk controller on the mother board.
- Install a new external controller.
- Jumper the correct pins.
2) Bad mother board. Replace it.
PROBLEM: Computer continually loses parts of the configuration
(setup).
o Diagnosis:
Turn computer on and off, or re-boot.
1) Are there any configuration or other error
messages? (Eg. "Real Time Clock Error,"
"Invalid Configuration: Please run SETUP
program.")
2) Look at the configurations in the setup
menu. Are any of the settings different?
(Eg. The system clock has stopped.)
o Solution:
In the above example, the real-time clock (RTC)
has a built-in quartz battery, and is located in
the Dallas chip on the motherboard. If setup is
lost, then:
1) Replace the Dallas chip (part # DS1287).
Hallmark has it in stock, (818) 773-4500.
2) Replace the motherboard.
PROBLEM: When booting up, the computer gets a specific Beep Code
error 1 1 3.
o Diagnosis:
Check the CMOS for write/read capability.
o Solution:
The CMOS write/read has failed. Replace the CMOS
chip or have an Authorized Service Center replace
the chip.
